What Guides Us

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a beautiful Montessori environment where children thrive. We prepare students to meet the challenges they may face in the future, while experiencing joyful learning in the present.

Our Guiding Principles

  • We are peaceful.
  • We use kind words.
  • We care for our friends, classroom, and environment.
  • We are global citizens.

School History

Jeannine and Paul Hanson founded Chestnut Montessori School in 2008 after finding the perfect site to provide a beautiful, natural learning environment in which children could explore nature outside and Montessori materials in classrooms. As a general contractor for many years, Paul built new homes and Montessori schools. He converted an historic home once owned by the Northup family to our school!

Chestnut Montessori was founded by Jeannine Hanson after more than 20 years of leadership within the Montessori community as Head of a large school, Parent Teacher Educator, and NCME and FIS Board Member.

She founded the Montessori Center for Teacher Education in 1990 (now Chestnut Montessori School Teacher Education),an internationally accredited teacher education program.

Parent Reviews

Five star icon

"As a Montessori kid myself and a mom of five who’ve attended seven schools, I can say without hesitation that Chestnut Montessori is the most impressive and genuinely exceptional school our family has experienced. Chestnut Montessori fully embraces and lives out Dr. Maria Montessori’s vision and approach, and the impact of that on my boys has been extraordinary. The teachers’ expertise, loving care, and genuine investment in their students shine through every single day. I’m beyond grateful for CMS and so thankful to have found a school that truly supports my children in becoming exactly who they’re meant to be."
